Dog grooming clippers can be found at pet specialty stores and some general retailers. A dog who has thick, long, or curly hair will be more difficult to groom at home. With these dogs, expect your grooming to be more utilitarian than chic. But grooming your dog at home can benefit more than just your wallet. Some dogs are afraid of groomers and find the experience very stressful. Grooming these dogs at home should be easier on a high-strung dog or one who is easily intimidated.
Will Cooperation be an Issue During Dog Grooming? Depending on your pet, cooperation may be an issue and a major obstacle. Remember not to get frustrated, maintain eye contact and offer reassurance as you groom. Grooming in contained places will prevent fido from blowing the coop and you chasing a sopping wet dog around your house or yard. Professional groomers utilize dog grooming nooses and leads to aide in the grooming process
Before you just throw your dog in the bath and start lathering up you should be adequately prepared. Get your shampoo (made for your dog not human shampoo), some brushes or combs, a washcloth, some cottonballs, a towel or two, and any other equipment or products you might need. You might want to use a detachable spray hose for your bath and a rubber mat makes a good idea to prevent slipping and sliding. Large breed dogs will most likely have to use the bathtub with the rubber mat on the bottom, but smaller breeds can use a plastic basin or rubber storage bin.
