Start with a solid foundation: Dog houses are built of wood mostly. However, any kind of wood won't do. Start with the size of your dog and try to build a house around it's size – not the size when it's a little puppy but the actual size it's expected to grow to. If you are using artificial wood or pre-treated wood panels, make sure that you neutralize the chemicals since some of these can be harmful for animals. Better still, avoid using artificial wood panels altogether.
Whatever may be the style and design of your it, ultimately it should serve the purpose for what it is purchased i.e. provide shelter and protection to your dog from all kinds of external elements. Wood and metal are the most popular materials to make outdoor dog houses. Plastic is also preferred as it is water repellent and easy for air to circulate. They are a necessity for every dog. So, look into all the factors before buying one for your dog.
In a perfect world, you will be able to keep your dog inside. But sometimes that just isn't possible. Perhaps your dog has outgrown your house, or you have a new baby or an elderly relative moving in that you are worried about your dog being around. In either case, the solution is not to simply cast your dog out into the backyard without any shelter. If your dog has to be outside most of the time, it is important to provide a dog house so your dog can continue to live safely and comfortably. Indeed, even if your dog is allowed in the house, a dog house can still be a good idea if your dog will be spending extended periods outside during the day. In such cases, a dog house will provide shade on sunny days, and warmth on cold days.
Building Your Own Dog House. As a final consideration, if you are particularly handy with tools, consider building the dog house yourself. A number of basic plans are available on the internet for you to choose from. Keep in mind, however, that depending how competent you are with woodwork, this may turn out to be a more expensive option. Additionally, ensure that the dog house you've made is stable and will withstand the elements before putting your dog in it for the night.
Should you find free plans to build your house for your dog? This might sound like a good option at first, but I would probably discourage this. Why? The quality of the plans may not be as good. Also, you are investing in materials and you want something that will result in a home for your dog that will last and that you can be proud of. How large of a home should I build for my dog? This all depends on the size of your dog. It also depends on if it is insulated or not. If it isn't insulated, you don't want to make the house much bigger than your dog. This way the natural heat from your dog will more likely be retained. Even if it is insulated, you don't want to make the dog house too large, instead you want it to be big enough, but still cozy.
If you have a canine that is 20 pounds or less, then your pet would fall into the small category. Beyond that weight you would jump into the medium and then large variety. Of course, if your small Dachshund weighs in at 30 pounds, you have a much different problem. At the moment I have two pets that qualify for this small designation, so I can relate to how you feel about your little friend. The little dogs tend to be underfoot more than large dogs and are often hard to see when on the floor. This becomes a big issue for older people or people that have vision difficulties.
Features and Ease of Use. The air conditioning unit is light weight (44 lbs) and has built in handles making it easy to carry. It has a digital display that is very easy to read and it has a programmable thermostat. You can adjust the temperature to be between 62 and 88 degrees. The new hand held remote makes adjustments extremely convenient. Once set the unit will automatically switch between heat and air conditioning to maintain a constant temperature. The unit is small and safe for use inside a building, too. These units are sometimes used with a dog house inside a barn or garage in extreme climates for extra protection. Maximum Versatility. These portable air conditioners can easily be moved to different spaces as needed. You might have the air conditioning unit connected to your dog's house for the majority of the year, but if your family goes camping, you can cool your tent for a few days as well. These units can also be used safely with small RV trailers and campers.
