Dog Training Advice – Consistency, its essential. Dogs learn things by means of repetition, this has been clearly established already. So, for you to have any success in controlling your dog or dogs, you need to be CONSISTENT. Yes, this is truly the one most important thing when it comes to dog training. Whether you live alone or have a huge family at home, dog training is essential to maintain peace and harmony, never mind the bank balance. This is essential if you have a family or share your home with other people. You will need to educate the family or other people as well, so that the dog sees a CONSISTENT chain of command. Sounds very military, but I suppose this attitude is required if you want to eliminate bad dog behavior. There is no point in you putting in all the effort to get your dog trained and well behaved, just for the rest of the family to go and ruin it all. This will really make your dog confused as well.
There are probably as many dog training problems as there are dogs and trainers. That is because most of us don't have a clue about the right way to teach our dogs. Avoiding dog training problems means using the correct dog training methods right from the start when training your dog. Almost all of us make the same mistakes when training our dogs, and end up with various problems getting the results we expect with our training efforts. These problems then show up when our dogs don't listen to us-or only listen when they feel like it.
In addition to being effective, reward training provides a much more positive training atmosphere than some other training techniques. Because it's a reward-based method, you reward your dog whenever he does as you ask. Scolding, striking, punishing or correcting your dog for not following your command is never used in reward training. You simply reward and reinforce the actions you do want your dog to perform. This positive reinforcement makes reward training a much more pleasant experience for owners and dogs than punishing him. You do need to be careful to only give your dog treats at the right time during training sessions, however. If the timing of the rewards is unrelated to your dog doing as you ask, he'll get confused about what you want, and he might even start thinking he'll get treats no matter what. So, make sure you only reward your dog for doing something right.
