Dead Dogs Are Included In Dog Food Ingredients. When dogs don't get adopted at dog shelters, they usually get euthanized. It is very expensive to bury these euthanized dogs so they often get picked up by rendering companies and used to make dog food and other animal feed. They get ”rendered” by throwing them into huge vats along with other ingredients at very high temperatures and then chopped up and melted down into one big conglomerate rendered soup. So, dead dogs get ”recycled” back into dog food. The term ”recycled” is an industry term. When you feed your dog commercial dog food, you may very well be feeding dog to your dog, although ”dog” or ”canine” will never be listed specifically in the ingredients. At one point, the city of Los Angeles alone was sending 400,000 pounds of euthanized dogs and cats to rendering factories. The $2.4 billion dollar per year rendering business doesn't mention these figures anywhere on their websites that tout ”recycling” and the multi-billion dollar pet food industry (more than $13 billion per year in the United States alone) keeps this a hush hush secret.
There is a high percentage of dogs that have food allergies. Corn is such a common additive, that some feel its constant inclusion with dog food has made it a regular culprit for dog food allergies. Soy is another culprit. Some feel that the number of dogs with food allergies may be as high as twenty percent, others ground the figure somewhere well below ten percent. Whatever the case may be, dog food companies have created hundreds if not thousands of different foods for dogs that should meet your dog's needs, even if he does have allergies. Obviously, a well balanced, meat-only diet would hit all of the required amino acid marks, and avoid potential grain allergies. Meat allergies however, are another reality that make the whole idea of dog food protein that much more complex.
Browse any grocery store or pet food store to buy Dog Food and you will agree that trying to decide on what is best for your dog is an exhausting task. Scanning the shelves of products available, you are bombarded by foods extolling different health benefits as well as a huge range of prices. The pet food industry is a multi-billion dollar industry and pet food manufacturers are eagerly marketing for every dollar. Not only are they marketing us to death, but also developing new products to put in front of us. Those products include ”dry”, ”canned”, ”semi-moist” and health targeted products such as ”senior”, ”premium” and ”gourmet.
