Old English Sheepdogs are large, gentle creatures. They are non-aggressive dogs that require a lot of grooming and love. Like their other large counterparts, Old English Sheepdogs need a large outdoor play area and a nice big dog house if they are going to be spending any length of time outside. These beautiful dogs are very eager to please their owners. Newfoundlands have excellent dispositions and their calm demeanor makes them great for families with children. They are exceptionally large and require plenty of room outdoors to run and play. They should also have access to a nice dog house that suits their larger frame and a fenced-in area where they can roam safely. If you have one of these large dog breeds, or any other large dog breed, giant dog houses can help you keep your pet safe and sound while it is outdoors.
Should you find free plans to build your house for your dog? This might sound like a good option at first, but I would probably discourage this. Why? The quality of the plans may not be as good. Also, you are investing in materials and you want something that will result in a home for your dog that will last and that you can be proud of. How large of a home should I build for my dog? This all depends on the size of your dog. It also depends on if it is insulated or not. If it isn't insulated, you don't want to make the house much bigger than your dog. This way the natural heat from your dog will more likely be retained. Even if it is insulated, you don't want to make the dog house too large, instead you want it to be big enough, but still cozy.
Other Styles of Dog Dwellings. There are some other lesser known types of outdoor dog houses, such as metal dog houses and dog boxes which are more of a specialty item. These are often used for hunting dogs and some can be placed in the back of a pickup truck. Barrel shaped dog homes are made using old wine barrels. This is a nice eco-friendly option, but is also said to resemble the type of ”den” a dog would naturally live in if he were in the wild.
